Mossad Tournament - SmB drops out

After not appearing for their last game against Insanity (thus granting Insanity a technical win) SmB went from bad to worse, declaring their drop from the Mossad league. Since it is too late to accept a new team in this stage of the league Mossad has decided to award each of the 7 remaining teams with a technical win against SmB, which means 3 points towards the final count.

Mossad Tournament - More details about the C-YA vs eLimination game
The first fault I have noticed from C-YA on this match was playing only 1 Medic (Advance) while eLimination played two (Techtron and Renato), taking full advantage of the Vanilla rules. Techtron played nice medic on the fight for cap 3 on well, ubering sotE (eLimination’s Heavy), while forcing C-YA to retreat. On this stage Daniel (Soldier for eLimination) forced Advance and Firefox (Heavy) to back away from cap 3 while wasting their uber. sotE played really nice Heavy on this part, taking out 3 of C-YA’s players. Thus, eLimination captured the 3rd cap. Afterwards some nice Shesek scout play won C-YA the point again, thus winning the entire match in a consistent offense. The second round went much worth for C-YA, with Advance ubering too soon and Koolfox getting killed by Daniel. The next round was too won by eLimination, thus granting them the cp_well win.
I really can’t see why C-YA did not use their best roster for this one – They only played a single medic, and Sabin, Scooz, Mohawk and other topnotch C-YA players were absent from this match, giving eLimination a nice shot at winning. A couple of players who really stood out for me were Shesek, with his usual amazing Scout play, though he wasn’t able to decide the match. sotE, with dominating Heavy play and Techtron with really nice Medic performance. Sikeh too played very nice Soldier, though sotE kept forcing him to retreat.
I only wrote about the Well game because Gravelpit didn’t really stand out, it was the usual tie (3-3).
LukeAR, The game’s refree, wrote his impressions about it as well:
Map 1: cp_well:
eL! started off with a strong offense causing C-YA to fortify positions in their base for a while. C-YA got a break and proceeded forcing their way to the first point of the match (C-YA 1-0). eL!, not giving up the fight did a blitz-krieg over C-YA territory for the tie and proceeded with a fierce fight resulting 2-1 eL!.
Map 2: cp_gravelpit C-YA started the match on offense storming through point A. Point B was fought over fiercly and eL! proved to be an equaled match. C-YA finaly capped point B and fiddled around point C for a few minutes until the coveted capture (C-YA 3-0). eL!s game was a mirror image of C-YAs game with the blitz through A, fight over B, and a shorter and firmer capture of point C (TIE 3-3).
In general, this was a very decent game from both teams. eLimination impressed us with really neat gameplay and players, keep up the good work. From C-YA’s side this was a pretty weak game that does not meet their usual standards.

Colossal Team Fortress 2 + Steam update coming Friday

Steam has published info on TF2 and Steam updates to be released tommorow, Friday 15.2.
Here are a few interesting updates for us TF2'ers:
Source Engine
- Refactored how lightmaps are downloaded to the graphics card at level load. On some hardware configurations this can lower level load times significantly - This might fix the long "freeze" problem at the load of each map
- Player stats are now sent up as they change, rather than when the player dies - No more 30-kills-and-changelevel problems, all achievments will be recorded as they change
Team Fortress 2
- Badlands released - w00t! but where is goldrush?
- Changes to Dustbowl
- Changes to Capture the Flag Well
- Changes to Granary
- Added a new timer to the HUD to show the value of mp_timelimit. This is useful if you're playing a timed match on 2Fort, where you only set a timelimit on the server and no other win conditions. - Very nice addition, no need for "timeleft" anymore
(I wonder what effects this update is to have on the Mossad Tournament, which was supposed to launch tommorow, the same day of the update. -A)
Update Sorry, It seems the updates are to be released today (Thursday 14.2), not tommorow as we stated earlier.

Mossad Tournament - A couple of refreshes
Mossad has published a deadline for the clan’s rosters – every clan must post its final roster by Thursday, The first day of Round #1. It seems the tournament rules we have posted earlier are incorrect. Each team will get 0 points for a lose, 1 point for a tie and 3 points for a win. Our earlier intel, that Gravelpit and Dustbowl ties will be settled with a stop watch, is incorrect. We would also like to refresh the scores info: At the end of the 7 rounds, The team with the most points (1st) will face the 3rd place team while the 2nd place team will play the 4th. The two winners will face off in the finals while the two losing teams will fight for 3rd place overall.
On this pleasant occasion I would also like to remind you we are looking for another blog author, please send Android a message via Steam (add_friend yoava) or messenger (boolosh@hotmail.com) regarding the matter if your interested.
Have a good day folks

Mossad Tournament - The maps & More prizes!

We now have news of the chosen clan's maps.
C-YA will play cp_well, At which they will have a definite advantage over the "Predators" (Formerly cripples, converge, impervious, malicious and teamqp - guys, settle on a multi!) thanks to superior scouts such as C-YA | Shesek.
Teamqp went just as we expected (on our "Predictions" post) - cp_gravelpit, even though the tournament won't be based on the ingame score like we have thought.
EIP will play cp_dustbowl, really a interesting decision seeing as dustbowl mostly ends with a tie, especially if you face a team that is pretty much your level of skill - in this case TFSH. Same goes to pFe, though this is even more peculiar, seeing as pFe will obviously lose at least one attack in this to Insanity! which are a superior clan.
aC too went with cp_gravelpit, against our speculations (cp_well). We understood they have a few new players (Dip and Zippond, who was S-LO admin) so their gameplay may have changed. Still, from our point of view, aC's chances of beating ADHD are still slim.
ADHD's and Insanity's map is ctf_2fort, which is an interesting choice for Insanity (who usually plays gravelpit).
Plus, we updated our Prizes post with the new details. Check it out.

VGames TF2 community cancels Team Tournament
The VGames TF2 community has canceled their Team Tournament (A league for 6 player team, both clans and unofficial groups), though it will possibly reopen at the end of the Mossad league (Read our coverage in the posts below) which is expected to end in about two months. The reason for this is probably the lack of teams joining because most of them are still busy with the league. We expect the same thing to happen to the Sagron (Webgame) tournament, which badly lacks participants.VGames Website

C-YA and Insanity! PCW conclusions

Insanity! Website
C-YA Website
I have had the privilege watching a C-YA versus Insanity Practice Clan War played on Gravelpit. It was a game worthy of those clans – full of good action. I will not post here the results because I really think they are of no importance, but I will post my conclusions of the match. Both clans did not play their strongest rosters or maps, so this info will probably not be relevant at more official games. I wanted to point out a few details I noticed.
I was very impressed by C-YA | Scooz’s medic play. He always had an uber ready for the critical moments and before he got it he treasured his half-made one well, retreating at the right times. Once I saw him uber a bit early, before the other team did, thus letting the enemy soldier get him, but other than that he played flawlessly.
C-YA | Firefox too pulled off an impressive move for me, stickyn as demo the exact right place and taking out Insanity’s Soldier, Demoman and Medic with a single shot. That allowed C-YA to grab on to B for a while longer, though they had to retreat to C eventually. He also spawn camped Insanity for a while, giving C-YA the opportunity to cap B without resistance. Another impressive player I pointed out is of course d0llar, who played amazing heavy while defending C and B.
An interesting thing I pointed out is Insanity’s roster. While I do not know their regular play, I noticed they used 2 Demomen and a single soldier unlike the usually roster (which C-YA used) of two Soldiers and a single Demoman. The Demomen (Or-L and forzew, both top-notch demos) were going to cap A, though usually without their medic (infusion, which played good medic but didn’t manage his ubers well).
My thanks goes to C-YA and Insanity leaders, Who allowed me to spectator the match and write this post.
See you around!

Mossad Tournament - some details about the prizes
Mossad has finally released details of their prizes for the tournament winners. Each player of the winning team (the team that ends up in first place) will get to choose either a fUnc or Steelseries gaming pad, though the exact model is yet to be determined. The cost of a single pad is somewhere around the 100 NIS mark, really a decent prize for such a tournament.
Steelseries Website
fUnc Website
We will continue updating when we receive more info.
Updated 07.02.08 1st place team, in addition to the mouse pads mentioned above, will also get a trophy of some sort. 2nd and 3rd place team confirmed to get prizes as well
Updated 10.02.08 It seems Mossad swapped the steelseries pads promised with another fUnc model. Seeing as fUnc make great pads we have no real reason to complain.
Each player of the winning team will get to choose either a Func F-Series 17" F10.S or a Func sUrface1030 Archetype, Sponsored by zigzag2000.co.il.

Mossad tournament - Round 01 Predictions

The first game of this round is ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) vs. aC (Anti Corny). While aC is definitely a serious, competitive clan with strong players such as Vall3y and sotE, I do not think they will be able to beat ADHD on this one - after all ADHD are more experienced players and have a better roster.
If I am to get down to detail, aC's best choice here is to choose cp_well, which seems to be their favorite map. On other maps their chances of beating ADHD are much lower due to ADHD's better deathmatch skills.
Second game is C-YA vs teamqp. C-YA has a definite advantage here, having strong players such as MoD, Mohawk, Sabin and more while teamqp did not yet get to setup a strong enough roster to be able to play C-YA equally. teamqp will most probably choose Gravelpit, seeing as it's their most played map so far. C-YA will win the attack stage here, resulting in a 3-0 (by the new gp score method). The entire map will go down to either C-YA winning both attack and defense (which will, I think, lead to their total victory seeing as teamqp's chances of winning defense against C-YA are reaching 0) or C-YA not winning the defense stage in which the game will tie 3-3. I think the best option for teamqp now is to defend the C cap strongly, so as to keep C-YA's score on 2, and then win a strong offense so that the game will end 3-2 for teamqp. If I am to guess a final score I would say 5-0, C-YA (after being unable to defend cap A on defense). I haven't got too much down to C-YA's pcws, so I am at a complete loss as to what map they will choose.
Third game is Insanity! vs pFe. This is an obvious game, decided by Ins's top-notch players (Forzew, Or-L, Krystal, d0llar) even thought the loss of Zig make Insanity a weaker clan than they were. I am guessing a definite Ins victory here, without pFe scoring a single point, even though I have no decent guess about the maps to be played.
TFSH vs EIP. This is a very, very close game unlike the other games in this round which have pretty much obvious results. I dare say EIP will take this thanks to their superior medic (General Edward) and thanks to the fact TFSH's best map (Hydro) isn't allowed on the tournament, but even though this game is very, very close and impossible to guess accurately.
To sum things up, ADHD, Insanity! and C-YA (Which are the strongest clans in the tournament) will probably get out of this round with the upper hand.
All-in-all, This round does not include very exciting games for me, and the same goes for the second round which will launch next week. The third round, on the contrary, include a C-YA vs ADHD game which will be amazing to watch.
Well, thats it for today folks, Over and out.
